Introduction

Our Alarms tools offer a variety of features to configure and manage alarms based on different parameters like process values, system performance, and equipment status. Users can set up alarm thresholds and conditions such as high and low limits, time delays, and hysteresis to trigger alarms when specific events or conditions occur.

Our platform provides notification options like email, SMS, and pop-up messages to alert users of critical events. It supports escalation procedures, allowing users to define different levels of alarm escalation for prompt response to critical events.

Additionally, diagnostic tools are included for monitoring and analyzing alarm performance and history. Real-time alarm status and performance data help users identify patterns and trends, optimizing alarm management accordingly.

Key Functionalities

Features Highlights

The Alarms module provides several key features:

  • AlarmHistorian: Allows saving alarms and their state changes in a separate database, distinct from AuditTrail, which only saves when editing settings.
  • Alarm Window object: Used for displaying active alarms and their state changes on displays.
  • Real-time alarm processing: Ensures quick identification and response to critical events.
  • Hierarchy organization: Alarms can be organized and managed hierarchically for greater flexibility and control.
  • Universal time and daylight saving: Timestamps are accurately recorded, considering universal time and daylight saving time.
  • Dynamic language localization: Alarm messages can be dynamically localized for easy understanding across languages.
  • High-precision timestamps: Supports high-precision timestamps up to 0.1 milliseconds for accurate and reliable data recording.

Real-time Alarm Processing

The Alarm module was developed using pure .NET managed code, incorporating multi-threading and exception control for optimal performance and reliability. By integrating the Alarm, Dataset, and Script Modules, you can efficiently log and bookmark various process execution events such as downtime, startup, shutdown, batch control, and continuous process analysis.

Storage and Replication

Alarm Historian data can be stored in either a local or remote SQL database. In cases of redundancy, the system automatically synchronizes the databases. This replication ensures that both servers maintain the exact same data, even if they use different providers, guaranteeing data accuracy.

OSIsoftTM PI EFTM Event Frames

The system seamlessly integrates with PI BatchTM and PI EFTM at the SDK level, facilitating data presentation, charting, and custom data management.

Universal Time and Daylight Saving

Our platform utilizes Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) for all logging and online date-time objects. This ensures that Alarms, Events, and Historical data are accurately timestamped regardless of your location or any daylight saving settings.

Audit Trail and Alarm Areas

Easily activate audit trail with a single click to track Operator Actions, Database and Reports Events, User logon and logoff, System events, and custom tags events. All data is securely archived in SQL tables with encryption defined by the project.

Alarm Visualization Component

Access the built-in graphical alarm visualizer seamlessly across PCs, web browsers, or iPads. Enjoy a range of features including filtering, SQL queries, grouping, printing, saving, acknowledging, and exporting alarms with ease.

Notification Subscription

Project scripts have full access to the entire Microsoft .NET Framework and can easily subscribe to alarm events. This enables the implementation of custom actions such as notification and calculation methods.

Store and Forward

When utilizing remote databases, our platform offers a "store and forward" option. This means that a local cache is created to store data while the connection is unavailable, and then forwards the data once the database connection is reestablished.

Localization

Messages and query results retrieved from the Alarm Historian database can be instantly translated into local languages using automated dictionaries.
